I've been aware for a while that there seems to be a problem with the category filter. I put it down for a long time to idiosyncratic English in the Help File (eg "any selected will match topics which have which none of the selected criteria associated" No biggie - I'm a typical Brit and have no Deustch myself) But now it's really causing me problems.

Say I want to find an item IN "A" CATEGORY which I want to DO "NOW".

1. A sample file (which I have emailed to you) has only:
a. Two categories; A and B
b. Two variables; Later and Now
c. One uncategorised item, one central node and four other items, A+LATER, A+NOW, B+LATER, B+NOW

2. When I try to get a specified category AND a specified variable (eg CAT A + NOW) the following happens:
a. "Selected" returns ALL 4 catetgorised items (as e)
b. "Only all selected" returns all the UNcategorised items, inc. central node
c. "None" does the same as "b"
d. "None of Selected" returns every node in the map
e. "Any" returns all 4 categorised items (as a)
f.  "Any Selected" returns nothing

Is it really the case that there is no way to filter on items using more than one category, is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong? I'm using ver 1.3.3.8

Sorry for the delay. It is all well at JKRB :-)

Yes, in fact you have catched a bug, so that currently category filters works only limited.

Regarding the additional filter options described in the help file: If you have a better description please let us know. To make clear what the options mean, here is the description with symbol samples (as categories are currently not working).

 

Assumption: You have a map like the one in the picture below. In the symbols tab of the filter settings you have selected the "green arrow" and the "mail" symbol.

Selected:
will match the topics which have at least all selected criteria associated.
=> Any topic which have the symbols "green arrow" and "mail" associated, will be shown. Also a topic with the additional symbol "question mark" will also shown in the task list.
Topics visible: "Cat a later, tentative", "Cat a later"

Only all Selected:
will match the topics which have only the selected criteria associated.
=> Any topic which have the symbols "green arrow" and "mail" associated, will be shown. But a topic with the additional symbol "question mark" will not appear in the task list.
Topics visible: "Cat a later"

None:
will match the topics which have none of the criteria associated. Any selected item on the corresponding property page will be ignored.
=> Any topic without any symbol will be shown in the task list.
Topics visible: "Nothing", "Cat a", "Cat b", "CAT TEST"

None of Selected:
will match the topics which have none of the selected criteria associated
=> Any topic without any of the selected symbols will be shown in the task list.
Topics visible: "Cat b now", "Nothing", "Cat a", "Cat b", "CAT TEST"

Any:
will match the topics which have any of the criteria associated. Any selected item on the corresponding property page will be ignored.
=> Any topic with at least one symbol will be shown in the tasklist.
Topics visible: "Cat a later, tentative", "Cat b now", "Cat b later", "Cat a now", "Cat a later"

Any Selected:
will match the topics which have any of the selected criteria associated.
Topics visible: "Cat a later, tentative", "Cat b later", "Cat a now", "Cat a later"
